I get they’re trying to make this a dramatic story arc with a national scandal, but the irony is most cultures like this one wouldn’t have actually been so heavily scandalized by the idea of the widowed stepmother ending up with the eldest son, especially when they’re closer in age. If there was a reason to keep her within the family, it was quite common to marry a widow off to a brother, a cousin, and yes sometimes even a son of the husband. The only real reason people would have raised an eyebrow is because she comes from no where. And I do mean even heavily religious cultures. It wasn’t so common it happened ALL the time, but it happened enough it didn’t ruin families and cause national scandals.
