Wow their pushing this to the limit. I think it would have been fine not having the mom be the sister and it instead being someone like her school counselor or something. From the one side it works but was the uncle stated he’s now no longer related… And he looks just like her. It doesn’t explain anything from that point and it’s a hard sell.
