Also, even if the story seems to be heading a certain direction you never know if the author will pull a plot twist, so predictability is never an excuse for ruining the story for others.

Laila is actually some kind of evil spirit that emerged hundreds of years ago to take over the empire. There was a race of ancient sorcerers(Penelope’s ancestors) that teamed up to stop Laila and sealed it inside a mirror, THE MIRROR OF THE TRUTH. Just before it was sealed, a small part of its soul escaped from a crack in the mirror. After escaping that soul lived for hundreds of years possessing and devouring random people until one day it discovered that Yvonne’s body was a perfect vessel to live. As soon as Yvonne’s hand slipped from Derrick’s hand and she separated from her brothers in the Carnival, Laila took over her body. As time passed, Laila slowly tortured and suppressed Yvonne’s soul so that it could hold complete control over her(Again remember that she was only 12). The spirit used to eat people and then leave Yvonne’s body, only for 12 year old Yvonne to see herself covered in blood eating a dead body. The final straw and what broke Ivonne completely was when Ivonne from distance witnessed the duke adopting Penelope. She started running and screaming but couldn’t reach her father. That’s how Yvonne slowly died and Laila took control over her body.
After suppressing Yvonne completely, Laila returned to the dukedom using Winter who she had brainwashed and made fall in love with her when she was 18. However, Penelope, having the blood of ancient wizards, could never accept Laila’s presence. Penelope didn’t understand why as she wasn’t aware about her bloodline that time. So Laila carefully brainwashed all the ML’s so they would turn on Penelope and eventually kill her. Yvonne then used Callisto to get the golden dragon fangs and fully take over Yvonne’s body, separating and sealing Yvonne’s soul in the mirror. Just as Laila was about to unseal the rest of her soul and more spirits like her from the mirror, Winter broke free of her brainwashing and used a forbidden spell to turn back time, sealing his own soul in the mirror to burn in Eternal Flames, to save Penelope, the only one who fought against Laila. However, he didn’t know that Yvonne’s soul had already been sealed by Laila and that no one aside from Laila would have memory of what occurred. So time continued to repeat over and over again, save that after the first time loop, Yvonne was never able to return to her body. I personally think her story is even sadder than Penelope because at least Penelope doesn’t remember her last lives, Yvonne remains 12 year old mentally and has to go through all this thousands of lives 😭 Saddest part is she remembers all the times she hurted people she cared about
