I feel so bad for Eclis. I actually like him for Penelope at first. I don’t think he deserved it. How Penelope could say that— blaming everything to him.
Ok I think there is couple of points you people missing. First to begin with the MC from the start had a goal to survive the “game” and go back to her world never to deviate from it . She in the beginning never thought of anyone as real and so regardless that everyone was treating her like sh*t anyway she also never wanted to get attached to anyone ( ex. She was so frustrated to realize she actually has feelings for callisto and tried her best to deny it ) and she even said, after she complete the game and go back to her world the OGMC will be there to “fix” what mess she left after her and that after all everything belongs to the OGMC anyway that was her mindset. Second Eckles was like this from the start he holds so much hate for this empire and it people he hates his “master” even and was planning to kill her but he fall for her, still had no respect for her though and in notable occasion used her to spite his anger about the empire and hardly ever followed her command. He Knows what she was doing and that she doesn’t like him but he wanted her so bad even if to hurt her so she doesn’t have a choice but him so yeah he was like this from the beginning a person with so much hate and got obsessed with the sad lonely soul that was Penelope and he can have something that will be only his. Finally Penelope was fucking scared of Eckles are we forgetting that? This why she hardly went and see him she said multiple times and she doubt even that he was the best choice but every time his affection score raised so high she blocked any thoughts of the sort because she was so desperate to go back to her world and not have to spend any extra min on this world. Regardless MC always treated Eckles good and did everything she could for him even though she told herself OGMC can fix things after her, she still wanted Eckles to be comfortable after she leave she did care for him after all this is why the shock to see him of all people being the one to brought Yvonne hits so hard. Even if you think she was just using him it doesn’t change the fact that he betrayed her after all she done for him.

The only person he had was you and you only came to see him basically only when you remembered.
