At chapter 10 – the “righteous” guy is simply scum who starves his people to protect his brother and places blame on the girl. And tries to attack her just because she uses magic.
If he is the ML, then he fails as a ruler and human (he could surely limist scope of blizzard saving his brother and not destroy whole land).
